If you have a hard time scheduling dental appointments and are looking for a sedation dentist, you are not alone. Dr. Yount and his team understand what it is like to have fears about dentistry. They want you to understand that it is possible to resolve your dental issues without the fear and anxiety. They have seen many of their patients overcome the fear and begin to enjoy regular dental care. Here’s what goes into their approach.
Do You Need Sedation Dentistry?
The first thing you need to understand is that at least a third of all Americans suffer from some kind of dental phobia. It usually stems from a bad experience that caused trauma. So the solution is to provide you with a supportive atmosphere in which you can experience completely pain-free dentistry.
If you have ever had a dentist work on you before you were completely numb, it can be absolutely terrifying to contemplate returning. Sometimes this leads to years of neglect, and more serious problems. Rest assured, that will not happen here. Dr. Yount and his team will stop the appointment if you are not numb. And you will not be judged. You will be treated with the respect you deserve for overcoming your fear enough to try a new dentist.
If you need more than just being numb, while we don’t offer complete conscious sedation dentistry, we do offer two light sedation options.
Light Sedation Dentistry Options
Nitrous oxide is a light kind of sedation mixed with oxygen. It is breathed in through a nose mask, leaving your mouth free. The effects of nitrous oxide will not only help you relax, it can increase the effectiveness of Novocain, helping you get numb more easily. And you may not know it, but there is a way to administer Novocain without any pain at all. Dr. Yount and his team know how to do this.
Once your treatment is complete, you will breathe just oxygen for a couple of minutes. Nitrous oxide leaves your system as soon as you stop breathing it, so you can drive and return to your normal activities after your appointment.
