If you are considering dentures, you should know that it is always better to preserve your natural teeth if possible. In cases where this is not possible, dentures are a good option. Whether you need partial or full dentures, Dr. Yount and Dr. Murphree can create them to look so natural and beautiful, no one will know they’re not your own teeth.
Beautiful Complete Dentures
Dr. Yount has created many sets of complete dentures. He’ll begin with a full exam to evaluate your situation. He’ll then take a full impression of your mouth with a 3D scanner. We send this impression to a high-end dental laboratory where a technician will take a digital scan. This digital method expedites the whole process. And Dr. Yount uses only the best quality materials. The results will be beautiful and feel comfortable.
Partial Dentures
If you’ve lost a few of your teeth, but you still have many healthy ones, you may be a candidate for partial dentures. Sometimes people decide they don’t want to go to the trouble of replacing just a few teeth. But it is always a good idea to get a partial denture, a dental implant, or a bridge. If you don’t have something, your remaining teeth will shift. This could lead to periodontal disease or a shift in your bite, sometimes called TMJ disorder. Once we examine your teeth, we can help you decide on the best resolution.
Anchoring Dentures to Implants
There are several drawbacks to removable dentures. Removable upper dentures cover your whole palate, so they create suction to hold them in place. Many people find that this interferes with their articulation when speaking and with their enjoyment of food. And you have to train your tongue and cheeks to hold in a lower denture.
More importantly, when you lose a tooth, your body will absorb the minerals in the jawbone that supported it to use elsewhere. If all your teeth are missing, the resulting bone loss will eventually lead to a condition called facial collapse. It can take as little as ten years for this process to become pronounced. And this bone loss will make it very difficult or impossible to wear traditional dentures.
Dental implants can prevent this process, and just a few dental implants can be used to anchor a whole arch of your dentures. Dental implants will also keep your dentures from slipping. And because your upper denture will not need to cover your entire palate, you will be able to speak normally and enjoy your food more.
